Professional Bio

Melita Simley (Mullins) graduated from Cumberland College in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a minor in Military Science. She was commissioned as an Air Defense Artillery Officer on 13 May 1995. Her first assignment was to Fort Knox, KY as a JROTC instructor. Upon completion, she attended the Officer Basic Course at Fort Bliss, TX. She graduated as the honor graduate and was selected to attend Airborne School at Fort Benning, GA where she received her Airborne wings on 30 May 1996. She was then assigned to 69th ADA BDE in Ansbach Germany. During her tenure at Battery and Battalion level positions, she received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with support to Operation Desert Tempest and Operation Desert Falcon. She was at the forefront of Operation Northern Watch Incirlik, Turkey. On 11 June 1999 she was selected for Captain with orders to attend the ADA CCC course at Fort Bliss, TX. After graduating as the honor graduate again, she was selected as a Basic Course mentor. At this time, she felt her skills would suit just as well as a veterinarian. She resigned her commission and began her work in veterinary medicine. Life changed once again when she married her husband, Air Defense Artillery Officer Mike Simley. She embraced the role of soldier spouse. Life took the Simley family to Fort Sill, OK in 2009. We found the location, weather, and hunting opportunities to suit us and here we are 14 years later living the life in Southwest Oklahoma.
